East Riding Council have approved plans to store 200 tonnes of crude oil at the West Newton fracking site in East Yorkshire and more drilling is planned.

Labour’s Green Industrial Revolution will create more than 94,000 jobs across Yorkshire and the Humber through £13 billion direct public investment in the green technologies of the future. This will lead to estimated emissions savings from Yorkshire and the Humber of 20 Mt CO2e each year by 2030.

From steel to coal to chemicals, Yorkshire and the Humber has a long tradition of energy and heavy industries. It is the English region with the most to gain from Labour’s plan to make UK industries the cleanest in the world, and with its windy coastlines, is well placed to benefit from the UK’s booming offshore energy industry. However, the region and its thriving economy is currently at risk from the Tory’s do-nothing industrial strategy that has seen iconic sites like Scunthorpe steel threatened with closure and continuing Tory austerity.
